Diet and Exercise can Control Health Care Cost
Posted: February 9, 2011 Filed under: Controlling Costs 2 CommentsDiet and Exercise can Control Health Care Cost. I am positive this statement is true. People who take care of themselves have less expensive costs when it comes to healthcare. Take care of yourself and you will see your doctor less frequently, probably reduce medications you’re using, lose weight and sleep better at night.
Yes, I’m talking about diet and exercise! I’ve gotten a little bored with the whole PPACA (patient protection and affordable care act) thing. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t receive an email about health care reform. But if you want to keep reading about it, check out this blog by Alan Katz. He’s a long time insurance guy who writes about the legal stuff and where things are going in the health care reform world.
HELP IS ON THE WAY
But back to my idea. I’m pretty much a fitness enthusiast. A few years back I found myself a little plumper than I liked. I was having a hard time getting back on track. How did this happen to me? I still worked out and yet the pounds were adding up. It was time to bring out the big guns. I contacted one of my clients, Pam Ben Rached, who is a personal trainer. I scheduled a number of visits and off I went. It was hard facing reality, but I knew I had to take care of it since I couldn’t wish away the pounds. Pam got me going again, I enrolled in Weight Watcher’s and ramped up my fitness and lost the weight. I used their online program which was just my style. I’ve revisited Weight Watchers a couple of times since let’s face it, the weight tends to creep back on periodically when I let my guard down (aka eating potato chips). But mostly I have kept the weight off.
BEING A FITNESS GEEK PAYS OFF
So far I’ve been able to avoid taking medications and I believe this has to do with taking great care of myself. I do a lot of research when it comes to health, I read a lot of books about health and fitness and I make sure I get exercise. For those of you who don’t know, I’m a golf lover. I love the game and insist on walking the course whenever I can. It’s a great long walk and I get to focus on the game which takes me away from everything else.
So now that the weather is improving and we get a little more sunshine everyday, it’s time to get out and get some exercise. It doesn’t have to be a long encounter and doesn’t have to be extremely intense (of course you will see bigger results the more intense you make it). Take better care of yourself and you will save some money in the long run because taking care of yourself helps you control your cost when it comes to your healthcare. This is especially important for those of you who have insurance plans with high deductibles. High deductible plans will reduce your premiums but how can you avoid paying that deductible amount? You guessed it, taking better care of yourself.
COME ON EVERYONE, LET’S GO!
I know you’re thinking, but it’s still winter, is this woman crazy? I took this picture on the Contra Costa Canal Trail last week when I was on my race walk. It may technically still be winter, but spring is truly just around the corner. Join me in taking better care of yourself!
P.S. Let me know how you like the new look of my blog.
Wonderful blog! Thanks so much for mentioning me and congrats on your continued success!
Pam, you were so instrumental in getting me back to where I should be! I thank you!
